Activists, journalists, dissidents, and ordinary citizens are censored and surveilled by repressive governments. However, in the digital age where telecoms control our access to the internet, social media platforms monopolize our digital engagement and activism, and where surveillance tech companies have untamed power, censorship and surveillance is no longer the sole business of governments. This session dissects the relationship between corporate and government censorship and surveillance.
