Joana ist promovierte Kulturanthropologin und Autorin zahlreicher Bücher über die kulturellen Auswirkungen der Globalisierung. Sie ist Mitbegründerin von betterplace.org, Deutschlands größter Spendenplattform. 2010 gründete sie das betterplace lab, einen Think and Do Tank zur Erforschung der Nutzung digitaler Technologien für das Gemeinwohl. Entsprechend ihrem Interesse an digital-sozialen Innovationen unterstützt sie Initiativen wie die ReDI School, CRCLR und Stiftung Neue Verantwortung. Joana investiert in impact-orientierte Startups wie Clue, DeepL, Stadtfarm, Carbon Loop Technologies und nebenan.de. 2018 gründete sie Das Dach Berlin.

Joana has a PhD in cultural anthropology and is the author of numerous books on the cultural effects of globalisation. Including Tanz der Kulturen (Rowohlt 2000), Maxikulti (Campus 2008), and Seeing Culture Everywhere (University of Washington Press, 2009). Joana is co-founder of betterplace.org, Germanys largest donation platform. In 2010 she founded the betterplace lab, a think and do tank researching the use of digital technologies for the common good. In line with her interest in digital-social innovations, she supports initiatives such as the ReDI School, CRCLR, Stiftung Neue Verantwortung and Alfred Herrhausen Gesellschaft. Joana also invests in mission-driven startups such as Stadtfarm, DeepL, Carbon Loop Technologies, Clue and nebenan.de. She recently co-founded Das Dach.
