Parminder is Executive Director of IT for Change, an India based NGO in Special Consultative Status with the UN. IT for Change is recognized globally for its pro-active advocacy and research on digital society issues, from a Southern, and equity and social justice, standpoint.
Parminder has been an advisor to the UN Global Alliance on ICTs for Development, and a Special Advisor to the UN Internet Governance Forum. He was a member of the UN’s Working Group on Improvements to the Internet Governance Forum, and later of the UN’s Working Group on Enhanced Cooperation (in Internet Governance).
He has been the first elected coordinator of the global Civil Society Internet Governance Caucus, and a key organiser of the Just Net Coalition – a global coalition of more than 35 organizations advocating a just, egalitarian and democratic Internet. In 2015, during the 10 year review of the World Summit on the Information Society, he was invited to address the UN General Assembly. In India, he has been working with grass-roots organisations of farmers, traders and workers, and the right to information movement, in terms of how a digital society and economy impacts them.
